Investigate a cash shortage without accusing anyone

The problem

A short drawer turns into blame and nobody learns what happened.

Steps

1. Recount the drawer with a witness
2. Check for miskeyed transactions, voids, and refunds on that drawer
3. Review paid outs and change orders
4. Check camera footage for the register if needed
5. Talk to the employee privately and ask what they saw
6. Write a short incident note and set a follow-up if it repeats
